Today I managed to finalise the two glass pieces I made during the murrine masterclass with Giles Bettison. For me, my inspiration came from the colours of south east Alaska where I had been immediately prior to the workshop. These are the last photos taken in Hungary of the balance of animals that were not birds. I fell in love with the snails - they were huge and beautiful and everywhere. For the last 6 or 7 years I’ve been lucky enough to have a pair of swamp harriers nesting on the water near home. This year, I’ve been even luckier in eventually spotting the nest site just as the pair of juveniles are spending time on the ground next to the nest. The final three blown vessels of the year are now in Pegasus Gallery waiting for their forever home. So this week in my glassblowing session, I decided it was time to try and make a barn owl based on one of my photographs. Considering it was the first attempt to try and work out the processes needed, i think it worked out pretty well. After about 6 months and quite a few trial runs, a beautiful pair of blown glass dolphins have arrived in the gallery - one in clear glass and one in amber.
